1972’s Apollo 17 Moon mission discovers Aldnoah—advanced ancient technology—and a warp gate to Mars. As space colonization continues, Mars’ technologically superior settlers declare an independent Vers Empire, erupting in war against the United Earth Federation. 1999 brings the Moon's and warpgate’s destruction, causing a ceasefire. In present-day 2014 Japan, an assassination attempt during the Martian Princess’ diplomatic visit reignites the conflict, pitting both sides’ veterans and young cadets against each other.
