PREMISE

An outbreak of Demoniacs—biomechanical corpses—terrorize Germany. Demoniacs are mech-like creatures which can fuse to technology, including cars and motorcycles, turning into supernatural monsters who fight with guns and swords. Blassreiter follows the story of the Xenogenesis Assault Team's attempts to protect the public, and investigate Demoniacs' undead and human origins...and the humans wielding the Demoniac powers for their own gain.

LIKED!

good cinematography - dutch angles, leading camera cuts, etc.

action scenes were dope as hell; motorcycle cyborg fighter-jet mech fights?? ridiculous fun.

equal opportunity fanserservice: both males and females in the show had cleavage and tight bodysuits

OP and ED were a vibe, and Blassreiter show mixed in techno, rock, and moody saxophone to good effect throughout the episodes.

DISLIKED...

the compositing of CG and hand-drawn animation definitely shows its age (2008)

while the choreography of fights are good, the 3D animation is a bit janky during non-fight scenes

Blassreiter loses a bit of of focus in its penultimate arc, with increased flashback storytelling, a recap episode, and some uneven pacing

in turn, the show focuses on a few different character while progressing the narrative. There are 5 or 6 different arcs in total.

CLOSING REMARKS

I really appreciate art that make great use of its medium—and Blassreiter lives up well to the potential of anime by combining motorcycle racing, cyborgs, swordfights and machine guns, brought together with a dash of blood, and stylish colors, and moody music.
