One day, Tokyo’s smartest high school student Light Yagami stumbles upon the Death Note, a cursed notebook which enables its user to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name. Light begins a murder spree to purge society of all criminals, terrorizing Japan and the world. The ensuing police investigation—headed by the reclusive savant detective “L” and Light Yagami’s own policeman father—forms a thrilling psychological game of cat-and-mouse as Light balances his student & home life with his genocidal agenda.
The beginning third of Death Note is a spectacularly dark and intense show, the middle third is the same but with average execution, and the last third is underwhelming. A worthwhile thriller—but prepare for a dip in consistency and quality.
Death Note – 8/10
