300 years after humanity has colonized Mars, Martian settlers live as an enslaved, exploited colony of Earth. Representing the Martian Independence movement on a diplomatic visit to Earth, young politician Kudelia Bernstien unknowingly hires a Martian security escort run by child soldiers, who are ambushed during an assassination attempt on Bernstein's life. The children and Bernstien fight for survival and justice, descending into in a web of political intrigue, power struggles, and space mech battles.
Set against typical Gundam melodrama and great mech battles, Iron-Blooded Orphans explores the topics of human trafficking, child soldiers, abuse, colonialism, slavery, political intrigue, and more. Iron-Blooded Orphans is a dark, mature, and very compelling entry to the Gundam franchise.
