12-year-old Gon idolizes his absentee father for being a legendary “Hunter”—someone skilled in finding rare treasures, secret locations, and magical beasts—and so Gon decides to leave home become a Hunter himself, in order to find his missing father. Along the way, Gon makes friends with mysterious backgrounds, and faces dangerous enemies. Together, they explore the mysterious world of Hunters, and test the limits of their strength and friendship.
Hunter x Hunter is refreshingly good when it's grooving, but disappointingly average when not—and the consistency falls toward the back half of the show. But it remains one of the most well-produced, charming, and fun anime ever—well worth a watch.
