QUICK FACTS

PREMISE

The futuristic, utopian Academy City cultivates child espers, and Mikoto "Railgun" Misaka is a middle-school darling prodigy who controls electricity. Misaka attends school, goes shopping, and hangs out with her friends by day, but sneaks away at night to battle rival espers and uncover a conspiracy of human experimentation.

LIKED!

+
pretty animation
+
catchy OP and ED

DISLIKED...

low-stakes, boring filler arcs until about halfway through
the show isn't thematically adult/edgy/lewd, so the middle-schooler sexualization and fanservice felt gross
some animation consistency issues

OTHER THOUGHTS

WAY more moe than it's original, A Certain Magical Index
chronologically occurs between Seasons 1 and 2 of "A Certain Magical Index"

CLOSING REMARKS

More focused and less ambitious than its parent show "A Certain Magical Index"; this one is mainly cute girls doing cute things, with a sci-fi action backdrop that becomes more prominent in the second cour.

A Certain Scientific Railgun – 5/10
